It's like having a new baby in the house. I picked up an oil painting last week that I had purchased back in February from a local artist who had kept it until now for a show that he had this spring. It is hanging in the upstairs hallway and every time I walk by I get a faint whiff of a fresh-off-the-easel oil painting. Not overpowering, just enough to know that there is new art in the family -- such a wonderful smell.

Oh, it's great to hear that from a collector of art. As an artist- I love that smell, too! It just makes me smile....and curious- I follow my nose to find the source (whether it's my own work or a fellow artist's).
ReplyDeleteSuch a nice thought....
Hello,
ReplyDeleteSometimes all I have to do is to walk into my studio and the smell of the oils and painting mediums. Often it will be inspiration enough to start a new painting. Many times the smell of the flower, landscape, or fragrant perfume of a person being painted will seep somehow into the threads of the canvas....
